Simplifi October 2023 newsletter

In our October newsletter we bring to your attention one new Statutory Instrument (SI) concerning building safety. We list five amendments to UK SIs; two environmental, two on the misuse of drugs and one on planning law permitting temporary school buildings. For the Republic of Ireland there is an amendment to a waste regulation and a new regulation on dangerous goods. There is an amendment to an EU Regulation on chemicals.   We list subordinate legislation and EU retained regulations which will be revoked on 31st December by the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023.

During the month there have been three new consultations covering charges for international waste transfers, the prevention of pollution from shipping and on general waste management. The HSE is carrying out inspections of premises using metal working fluids. A Leicestershire Quarry company has been fined £1,275,000 following a fatality which occurred during maintenance.

SI 2023/1110

SI 2023/1110. The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) (Amendment) Order 2023.  Comes into force 25th October. This Order amends Part 4 of Schedule 2 to the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (SI 2015/596). Class CB covers the provision of temporary buildings on school land for a period of three years where one or more of the school’s buildings have been vacated due to the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete

DEFRA consultation on waste

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs   is consulting on policies on the collection of waste from non-domestic premises and information to be recorded on the new waste tracking service. HSE’s metal working fluid campaign

HSE is inspecting manufacturing businesses which use metalworking fluids in their machining processes.  Inspections will focus on the protection of employees from exposure to fluid or mist generated by computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
