SI 2021/1420.  The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations (Amendment) Order 2021.  Comes into force 1st January 2022.  These Regulations amend SI 2007/ The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations Order 2007/3072.  Amendments include the inclusion of a definition of “forest criteria” and the adding of maritime renewable fuel of non-biological origin as a type of fuel. The amendment also increases the renewable fuel targets imposed on fuel suppliers.

EU 2021/2204. Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/2204 of 13 December 2021 amending Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), as regards carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxicant (CMR) substances.  The prohibition on the placing on the market and use, for supply to the general public, of substances classified as CMR category 1A or 1B by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/849 will therefore apply from 17 December 2022.

SI 2021/1417.  The Plastic Packaging Tax (Descriptions of Products) Regulations 2021. Comes into force 1st April 2022.  These Regulations make provision in relation to Plastic Packaging Tax, introduced by the Finance Act 2021 (c. 26).  The meaning of “packaging component” in A 2021 c.26 is modified by the removal of descriptions of (i) filled packaging components with a primary storage function, (ii) packaging components that are an integral part of goods and are necessary to enable the goods to be used or consumed and (iii) packaging components designed for re-use in the presentation of goods, where those components are set aside or designated as such.
