Consultation on amendment to Contracts for Difference

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is consulting on amendments to The Contracts for Difference (Electricity Supplier Obligations) Regulations 2014, to enable payments under the Dispatchable Power Agreement (power CCUS). Consultation posted 4th December and closes on 29th January 2024. The amendments will enable the electricity supplier obligation levy to be charged for payments under the Dispatchable Power Agreement (DPA), that will support deployment of power carbon capture, usage and storage (power CCUS).

Consultation on new merchant shipping regulations

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is consulting on replacing the current Merchant Shipping (Carriage of Cargoes) Regulations 1999 (SI 1999/336 with revised regulations which implement all of Chapter VI of the Annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Live at Sea, 1974 (“SOLAS”). Consultation posted 8th December and closes on 19th January 2024. The new regulations will cover all types of cargos.

Consultation on WEEE reuse and recycling

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs is consulting on reforms to increase levels of WEEE reuse and recycling.  Consultation published on 28th December ‘ 23 and closes on 7th March.  https://consult.defra.gov.uk/product-regulation-and-producer-responsibility/consultation-on-reforming-the-producer-responsibil/. This consultation document sets out proposals for reforms relating to the provision of collection infrastructure for household WEEE financed by producers of electrical and electronic equipment.  It sets out proposals for reforms to the take-back obligations that currently apply to distributors. Finally, it sets our proposals to place new obligations on online marketplaces and on ensuring producers of vapes properly finance recycling costs when they become waste.

Consultation on UK SIC framework

The Office for National Statistics is consulting on updating the UK Standard Industrial Classification (UK SIC) framework.  Consultation closes 24th January. https://consultations.ons.gov.uk/external-affairs/uk-sic-consultation/ As a result of the UK’s exit from the EU, the UK SIC is no longer legally required to comply with the European Community NACE system beyond the two-digit level and its associated alignment to ISIC ( Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities).
