HSE issue a safety alert for Diacetyl

HSE has issued a safety alert for Diacetyl, also known as 2,3-butanedione.  This is a naturally occurring organic compound but can also be manufactured synthetically. Diacetyl vapour can be generated as a by-product during the roasting and grinding of coffee beans and may also be present during brewing of some beers. Diacetyl is classified as a hazardous substance.
