Republic of Ireland merchant shipping fire protection legislation

RI 2023/379. Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Rules 2023. Regulations published 20th July. These Rules, which apply to ships constructed on or after 1984, replace and update Fire Protection Rules for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of Chapter II-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS Convention) in relation to ship construction – fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction. The Rules revoke the Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Rules 1985 (RI 1985/279) and the Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) (Amendment) Rules 1990 (RI 1990/86).

These Rules, which apply to ships constructed on or after 2002,  give effect to the provisions of Chapter II-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS Convention) in relation to ship construction – fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction.
