The UK ETS Authority is consulting on the development of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme. Consultation closes on 17th June. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/developing-the-uk-emissions-trading-scheme-uk-ets. Aspects included in the consultation are:
- the role of a Free Allocation policy as a carbon leakage mitigation tool
- bringing in unallocated allowances and/or the flexible shares to the market.
- the potential drivers of evolving market conditions in the UK ETS and objectives for market stability policy
- a review of UK ETS aviation policy.
- changes to the rules for sectors currently covered by the UK ETS to ensure more greenhouse gas emissions are covered by the scheme.
- Expansion of the scope of the UK ETS to the domestic maritime sector, waste incineration and energy from waste.
