Simplifi February 2026 newsletter

In our newsletter for February 2026, we present three amendments to UK Regulations covering standards for performance for supply of gas and electricity, restricted substances in cosmetics and town and county planning.  There is also an amendment to Scottish legislation on town and country planning. We note two commencements for data use and human medicines.  For the Republic of Ireland there is an amendment to legislation on renewable energy.

We list consultations on the use of sludge in agriculture, future offshore energy leasing and licensing, methods used to investigate accidents involving watercraft, non-pipeline transport for carbon capture, usage and storage, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, proposed changes to the rates of fees in respect of offshore environmental and decommissioning and proposals to introduce a general safety requirement (GSR) for construction products.

News items which may be of interest are a plan to reduce and minimise the impact of harmful PFAS (Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) on public health and the environment and a new approach to the UK REACH candidate list of substances of very high concern. There are four prosecutions of note resulting from incidents when a worker suffered a severe skull fracture and permanent injuries, a worker died having been entangled in an unguarded machine, an employee died from inhaling toxic vapours from flooring adhesive and an employee sustained fatal injuries when he became entangled in a lathe.  We trust the learning from these incidents maybe worthy of consideration.
