RI 2017/194. European Union (Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail) (Amendment) Regulations 2017. Comes into force 30th June. The purpose of this amendment is to align the European Communities (Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail) Regulations 2010 (RI 2010/651) with the amending Commission Directive (EU) 2016/2309 . Directive (EU) 2016/2309 adapts for the fourth time (to scientific and technical progress) the Annexes to Directive 2008/68/EC on the inland transport of dangerous goods by rail including Annex II (RID). The amendment makes changes to the definition of “Directive” and “RID”.

RI 2017/230. European Union (Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres) Regulations 2017. Came into force 26th May. These Regulations transpose into Republic of Ireland legislation the provisions of Directive 2014/34/EU for the design and construction of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (known as ATEX) and which were placed on the market before 20 April 2016. The Regulations revoke and replace the European Communities (Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres) Regulations 1999, (S.I. No. 83 of 1999).

RI 2017/232. European Union (Lifts and Safety Components for Lifts) Regulations 2017. Came into force 26th May. The Regulations transpose into Republic of Ireland legislation the provisions of Directive 2014/33/EU, which set out the requirements for the design and installation of lifts and the manufacture of and making available on the market of safety components for lifts. The Regulations revoke and replace the European Communities (Lifts) Regulations 1998, (S.I. No. 246 of 1998) and European Communities (Lifts) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (S.I. No. 406 of 2008).

RI 2017/233. European Union (Pressure Equipment) Regulations 2017. Came into force 26th May. These Regulations transpose into Republic of Ireland legislation the provisions of Directive 2014/68/EU setting out the requirements for the making available on the market and putting into service, as well as the essential health and safety requirements relating to the design and construction of pressure equipment. The Regulations revoke and replace the European Communities (Pressure Equipment) Regulations (S.I.No.400 of 1999).

The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Scotland) Amendment Order 2017. Comes into force 31st July. Amends The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Scotland) Order 1992 (SSI 1992/223). • Article 4 updates the definition of “European site” • Article 5 adds 7ZA to 7ZE . These impose obligations on planning authorities with regard to applications by electronic communications code operators for a determination as to whether prior approval is required with regard to the siting and appearance of new ground based masts. • Article 6 adds 67. This grants permitted development rights for development by electronic communications code operators so that they do not have to submit applications for planning permission for certain development.

 The Environmental Impact Assessment (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) Regulations 2017.  Comes into force 30th June. These Regulations make minor changes and corrections to:

the Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/101) the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/102) the Forestry (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/113) the Agriculture, Land Drainage and Irrigation Projects (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/114) the Marine Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/115).
