19th December 2025Fine of £187,600 after apprentice injured
A Berkshire manufacturing company has been fined £187,600 following an incident when an apprentice suffered three broken ribs and needed skin grafts after his shirt became caught in machinery. An investigation by the HSE found that the company’s radial-arm drills did not have adequate guarding. The company was also found to have made modifications which increased the risk of operators getting caught and pulled into the machine. Finally it was determined that training had been inadequate.
