EU 2025 on packaging and packaging waste

EU 2025/40. Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste. Regulation shall apply from 12^th August 2026. This Regulation establishes requirements for the entire life-cycle of packaging as regards environmental sustainability and labelling. It establishes requirements for extended producer responsibility, packaging waste prevention, such as the reduction of unnecessary packaging and the re-use or refill of packaging, as well as the collection and treatment, including recycling, of packaging waste. The Regulation also amends Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 (market surveillance and compliance of products) and Directive (EU) 2019/904 (reduction of the impact of certain plastic products) and repeals Directive 94/62/EC (packaging and packaging waste).
