EA consults on changes to Standard Rules

The Environment Agency is consulting on revision of standard rules sets for biowaste treatment. The Agency proposes to reduce the number of standard rules by transposing like for like activity. The Agency also proposes merging the existing small-scale composting site to one rule set.  Consultation closes 13th January.  https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/environmental-permitting/standard-rules-consultation-no-20/

The Environment Agency is also consulting on the three new standard rule permits in preparation for possible changes to exemptions coming from Government’s consultation on “Reducing crime at sites handling waste, and introducing fixed penalties for waste duty of care”.  The proposed new standard rule sets are for operators of waste sites currently operating under exemptions;

  • T4: preparatory treatments for paper, cardboard and plastic sorting and baling
  • T8: mechanically treating end-of-life tyres
  • T12: manually treating waste for mattress recycling
