In our newsletter for December 2024, we bring to your notice five new Statutory Instruments covering the prohibition of single use vapes (England and Northern Ireland), the calculation of turnover for digital concerns, planning (in Scotland) and packaging and packaging waste. There were seven amendments to legislation on the proceeds of crime, communications, international waste shipments, prevention of oil pollution, construction of vehicles, cosmetic products and the Wildlife and Countryside Act. There were three amendments to Republic of Ireland legislation on maritime safety, waste management and control of hazardous substances. There was a new European Union regulation prohibiting sales of products made by forced labour.
During December consultations were raised on charges for UK ETS customers, maritime safety (three items), energy performance, waste management, unfair trading and carbon leakage. There were three prosecutions of note. In the news was a reminder to employers from HSE of the dangers associated with working in confined spaces
