May news letter

In our May 2020 news letter we report on amendments to legislation concerning dangerous substances, energy, protection to the environment and health, merchant shipping and planning law.  HSE has published revised guidance on Lone Working and remind persons responsible for water systems to review their arrangements for the control of legionella taking account of changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

June news letter

In our June newsletter we report on new legislation concerning plant protection and, for Wales only, waste.  We also report on amendments to energy, planning, waste (N.Ireland only) and water law. We bring to your attention DEFRA’s consultation on an environmental land management scheme and the further delay to the Environment Bill 2019-21.  HSE warn of potential hazards associated with the recommissioning of pressure systems after shutdown and there is learning applicable to a wide range of activities highlighted by a rail incident.  There are three prosecutions of note.

July news letter

In our July news letter we report on new legislation controlling pollution from merchant shipping. We cover amendments to legislation on energy, environmental protection, food, health and safety and planning. We note that the Public Bill Committee is scheduled to report its deliberations on the Environment Bill 2019-21 by Tuesday 29 September. There are two consultations; The Department of Transport on plans for a CO2 emissions regulatory schemes and HM Treasury on a carbon emissions tax.

In our August newsletter we report on amendments to health and safety, specifically COVID-19, and offshore legislation.  We also report on an amendment to an EU Regulation covering REACH and progress on the Environment Bill 2019-21.  We note consultations on shredded tyres, fishing vessel safety and waste management.  We cover the prosecution of a concrete manufacturing company.
