The Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2017. Comes into force 18th December. These regulations amend The Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (SSI 2017/101). The definition of an “EIA development” is amended. Amendments are also made to Regulation 28.

SI 2017/1289

.  The Renewables Obligation (Amendment) (Energy Intensive Industries) Order 2017. Comes into force 14th December. This order amends the Renewables Obligation Order 2015 (SI 2015/1947). Article 2 inserts a new definition of “EII excluded electricity”, electricity which is supplied to certain industrial users of into SI 2015/1947. Article 3 amends the provision imposing the renewables obligation in article 7(2) and inserts a new definition of “relevant electricity”. Article 8 inserts new articles 13A and 13B which cover the determination of the number of renewables obligation certificates to be produced by electricity suppliers

SI 2017/1322.

The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017. Comes into force 6th February. These Regulations implement, as respects Great Britain, some of the provisions of Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers from exposure to ionising radiation. The Directive repeals Directives 89/618/Euratom, 90/641/Euratom, 96/26/Euratom, 97/43/Euratom and 20013/122/Euratom.

In particular, these Regulations transpose Directive requirements relating to dangers arising from ionising radiation in relation to medical exposure. They impose duties on employers and those with responsibilities for administering ionising radiation to protect persons undergoing medical exposures whether as part of their own medical diagnosis or treatment, as part of research, as asymptomatic individuals, as those undergoing non-medical imaging using medical radiological equipment or as carers and comforters of persons undergoing medical exposures.

SI 2017/1312

The Environmental Protection (Microbeads) (England) Regulations 2017.  Comes into force 9th January. These Regulations prohibit the use of microbeads as an ingredient in the manufacture of rinse-off personal care products and the sale of any such products containing microbeads.
